Since 2005 there has been new building regulations (Part P) enforced in England and Wales which is to assist in the reduction in number of deaths, injuries and fires caused by faulty electrical installations and also to make it more difficult for the unregistered workers to leave electrical installations in an unsafe condition. Part P Is in place to help increase the safety of properties by improving the design, installation and the testing of the electrical installations when the property is being altered, newly built or extended.
Unsafe electrical installations and appliances can pose risks such as electric shocks, burns and other injuries related to fires which are ignited by electrical components overheating or a build up of electrical currents. Properties which have the installations that are properly designed, fitted and tested in accordance with British Standard BS 7671(Which is a requirement of Part P) will help minimize these risks.
